Wire Wrapped Jewelry Designs

Wire wrapped jewelry is one of the most versatile styles of jewelry design. The origin of this lovely design method goes back over 4,000 years. Wire wrapped jewelry can be traced all the way back to the tombs of the early Eqyptians.

Today, wire wrapped jewelry takes on many forms and offers endless design possibilities to the jewelry designer. Once I learned the art of wire wrapping, I was anxious to design with various types of wires as well as colored wires. Wire wrapped jewelry also has an added benefit of adding strength due your wire wrapped designs.

Wire wrapping opens up the opportunity to create pendants and accents using stones that are otherwise not appropriate for jewelry making as well as creating pendants made entirely out of wire using the chasing method of hammering and flattening the piece.

As a jewelry designer, the art of wire wrapping continues to be a style I use in almost every piece of jewelry I design. Whether the entire piece or just the attaching of a clasp or cabochon, wire wrapping is a beautiful, practical technique to use in most pieces.
